Hi, I just want to know since I am going into my junior year in high school, what average should I strive for to get into Cornell Univerity. I am a Hispanic and want to get accepted into the Urban Studies program. Thanks.

As high as you can get.

Cornell really cares about your grades and the quality of your high school curriculum -- much more than your standardized test scores. The admissions officers say this, and the experience of people who post on College Confidential seems to confirm it.

Take a look at some of the threads on the Cornell board where people reported on whether or not they were accepted. As a general rule, those with high GPAs but not-so-impressive SATs were more likely to be accepted than those with high SATs but not-so-impressive GPAs.

marian, what's your opinion of cornell's attitude about EC's?

I'm not sure about ECs. I am a Cornell alum myself and the mom of someone who is likely to apply there this year, so I'm interested in finding out. But I really don't know how much they care.
