General Comments/Congratulations/etc:
Good luck on March 31!

Wow…just wow.

@disaster: WOW from me too… like ‘WOW’

Unfortunately, I can’t say that Arch’s attitude is rare in Cambridge. There’s a reason why Harvard and MIT alums aren’t always held in the highest regard. A little bit of modesty could go a long way in this world.

^ precisely…

@ everyone who got accepted : congratulations…

Actually, I messed up. Arch didn’t make the odd comment. My apologies.

what how come people know about CAS?

^likely letters

This caught my eye too, and I would never make such an obscene statement. I think that a lot of adcoms are pretty good at weeding out the arrogant pricks. They exist, but most people I know at big name schools (MIT, Harvard, and Cornell included) are very humble. I’ve spent a lot of time in Cambridge, and people are much more thankful to be blessed with being able to be there rather than flaunting their achievements.

On a side note, my friend with a 2400 SAT/800’s on 4 SAT II’s, valedictorian of his school, and hispanic URM was rejected from Cornell two years ago. I kid you not; I didn’t believe it myself, but it goes to show that stats aren’t everything. This is a rare case, but it’s a very eye-opening example that should knock Nuke off of his high horse.

Especially stats that are obtained on one saturday morning- tests. If there’s one thing i regret it’s procrastinating and waiting till the last test date to take them. Additionally my chem score 690 was so low because this year is my first year of chemistry, didn’t take it before (i’m in AP) so i had a lot to catch up on-this was partially my fault since my low freshman gpa barred my entrance into pre ap chemistry low gpa due to family issues. So this shows that there are circumstances surrounding test scores which aren’t reflected very well. It is common knowledge that standardized tests are not very good indicators,Moreover that girl with even lower stats might not have come from a good school or only recently learned english. In short, don’t be so quick to judge. sorry about grammar writing in style of J Joyce stream of consciousness.

Really?! I take it you have never been in a meeting with a bunch of MIT alums who all seem to go out of their way to show off their brass rats.

Unfortunately this may be an instance of a Tufts or a WashU syndrome… I always took a bit of pride in the fact that Cornell doesn’t reject over-qualified individuals, but stories like this one seem to popping up a bit more.

That said, it still could have been a case of a lack of ‘fit’, depending on which school they applied to at Cornell.

agree with everyone about that arrogant comment…

wait, no regular decisions have been released, have they?

these are all just likely letters…

LIKELY (CAS)

Why do you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted/offered guaranteed transfer:
it’s all about being out of the ordinary! distinguish yourself from the other qualified yet stereotypical candidates! i think the fact that i’m an artist/writer, plus my well-roundedness as far as extracurriculars really helped, as did the amount of time i spent on my essays

I agree. If anyone got accepted to Cornell, its because they deserve it. They worked hard in high school and Cornell felt like they would be a worthy contribution to the school. If it was all about filling quotas, I would lose faith completely in the admissions process.

If someone had particularly low stats according to you, they could have had spectacular essays and/or incandescent teacher recommendations that got them in. I’m sure it isn’t just about racial status.

but wut if someone got accepted and they never worked hard at all, didnt get good grades, didnt win any awards, had low test scores cause they fell asleep while taking it, and didnt bother to write any decent essays

but they were one of 20 people of their race/gender and got in cause of that?
