****Cornell University Class of 2021 Regular Decision Thread****

Hi Everyone - two questions.

  1. do we know what date we’ll hear from the CALS school and also HOW we will be notified?
  2. If financial aid documents say initiated what does that mean? Can’t get through to financial aid office.

I hope initiated means the requirement is fulfilled. I uploaded everything to IDOC…

@hhjjlala I am not sure that is what it means. I can see that my financial aid information was uploaded to Idoc, but it doesn’t look like it actually went to Cornell. (I can tell that it went to other schools though). I cannot get Cornell on the phone, but did email them today and hope they get back to me. I also called the College Board, but they just said to call the school directly.

I too submitted documents via IDOC, CSS separately, and the FASFA. I received an email last week from a financial aid representative asking for clarification between info we provided on the FASFA compared to info we provided in the CSS. We exchanged 3 emails. It looks like they are in full swing evaluating the financial info. Keeping my fingers crossed that just maybe it’s a good sign that they are asking questions. But this may be their practice for everyone who applies. They are definitely thorough!

@stem2021, this may be a good sign. I know that S is quite unlikely to be accepted, but I still want to get his financial aid right. I am glad that they sound so thorough - just wish I could get them on the phone.

Parents calling admissions offices - for whatever reason - is never a good idea. If a student has a question, he or she should contact the office with HIS or HER question - not one of their parent’s questions.

I agree with Swimmer but wish the admissions office, scholarship office had after hours. Being in a lot of school activities I am often not home til past 5p. Sometimes my mom has called because of this. But then there is always email.

@Swimmer726, usually I agree with you, but in terms of financial aid forms I barely know what the question is. It doesn’t matter anyway, financial aid is not answering.

@Swimmer726 and @STEM2021, also S did email the financial aid office, he was given a case number and told he would be contacted, but that was days ago and the forms are due on Feb 15 so we’ll see. If he doesn’t hear by the tomorrow, he will likely email again.

Question, I was contacted for an interview. I am looking forward to asking the college ambassador questions about Cornell and sharing information about myself with her. Any insight into this process appreciated! Curious as to what impact if any this might have on my decision. Thank you!

@STEM2021, they say that it has virtually no impact. It can’t hurt though and you’ll learn more about the school.

Thanks! @elise303 Did you make any progress with the financial aid office?

@STEM2021, yes! I reached them on the phone and all is worked out.

@STEM2021 Domestic applicant?

Yes, Illinois. @11kysta

@stem2021 Officially the interview has no impact on the application. Unofficially, like everything else in life, it certainly could have an impact.

My S had his interview. Cornell is a major long shot reach for him. But he had an excellent interview and toward the end, the interviewer asked if there was anything NOT in his application that he would like communicated to admissions. Thankfully, S had an answer prepared. The interviewer appreciated what he added and asked him to put it in writing and send it to the interviewer. He did. Still a major long shot, but I think his interview helped.

In short, not interviewing won’t hurt your chances, but making a great impression could possibly help. You never know.

If anyone here has a different opinion, please share.

Thank you for your response! I feel so badly that the interviewer sent the email to me on Monday but I did not see it in my gmail in box until today. I immediately responded and apologized for the delay in my reply. Perhaps it was a complete oversight on my part or it was a space issue. I swear it was not there yesterday. I hope this is not a bad mark against me. @STEM2017

@STEM2021 They wouldn’t hold that against you. They understand being a high school senior and handling all the correspondence from colleges can be stressful at times. As long as you apologized politely and responded, you are fine.

@STEM2021 I wouldn’t worry at all about the delayed response. It will NOT be a bad mark against you. In fact, I wouldn’t mention it again. Good luck!

I will stop worrying about that. Thank you! @STEM2017 @11kysta
