Hi, I was recently accepted into Cornell’s college of Human Ecology under the Human Biology, Health, and Society major. I’m torn though; I really do want to pursue Cornell under Pre-med, but I was wondering if I could also double major in an English (Literature, something with creative writing) under this same college. So basically, can I focus on my science major and an arts major under the college of Human Ecology?
You wouldn’t be able to double major in English (which is located in arts and sciences), but you could minor in English or creative writing (or another major in a different college that interests you).
What do you mean by another major in a different college?
And so, just clarifying, I could take the bio major and minor in the writing course I want?
Yes, that correct
okay, thank you!
Sorry if I wasn’t clear! If your major is in Human Ecology, for example, you cannot also major in something in another college (e.g. Arts and Sciences). There are a couple dual major programs that are exceptions to this rule, but in general, you cannot double major across colleges. You can, however, take classes and minor across colleges. The English Department offers three minors that are open to any student at Cornell in any major (other than English): creative writing; English (general); and minority, indigenous, and third-world studies. Here’s a link on that department that might be helpful: http://courses.cornell.edu/preview_program.php?catoid=31&poid=15206#theenglishdepartmentminors
Oh wow, thank you! That’ll help significantly
