Cornell University Waitlist Class of 2022

Hey guys, will you they notify us if they can’t get us off the the waitlist??? Really nervous right now… I am an international applicant for HUMEC Human Development.

@djin25 did you get the transfer option in march?

How can you get the transfer option but still be on the waitlist? @NYCSenior

@FiringSquad what was the email address for spring admissions email? asadmissions@cornell.edu or asfysa@cornell.edu?

@M_51222 I got this on March 30:

You recently received notification from Cornell University indicating that you were placed on our wait list for fall 2018. We will contact you immediately should we have a space to offer you.

We hope this letter conveys our sincere desire to welcome you here in the near future at the School of Hotel Administration at the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business. Please make sure to complete the online form (http://admissions.cornell.edu/waitlistreply) letting us know that you wish to remain on the wait list.

The selection committee at the Hotel School was very impressed with many facets of your application and recognizes your potential. Therefore, in the event that we are unable to offer you fall 2018 admission, we will be extending you a special Transfer Option for fall 2019. A Transfer Option is an opportunity to study at another institution for a year and then apply to enroll at Cornell as a transfer student. This opportunity is given to a very select group of applicants, among the very best we considered this year, but beyond the number of freshmen we can enroll in fall 2018. The Transfer Option will require that you do the following:

· Enroll as a full time student for the fall and spring semesters of the 2018-19 academic year at another accredited college or university.
· Earn a 3.0 (‘B’) cumulative grade point average with no final course grades below ‘C’.
· Remain in good academic and disciplinary standing.
· Complete and submit a Transfer Option application in spring 2019.

During the 2018-19 academic year we encourage you to focus on completing a broad range of liberal arts or introductory business courses that may include economics, writing, or accounting. We do not recommend enrolling in hospitality courses because they may not transfer as college credit to Cornell. Additionally, we expect you to engage in hospitality-related work experience during the summers, paid or unpaid, full-time or temporary, in order to better prepare yourself for the SHA experience.

More information will be provided once we confirm that fall 2018 enrollment is no longer a possibility. In no way should this opportunity preclude you from accepting offers from other universities.

We will be in touch with you as soon as we can in May or June, should a space become available for fall 2018 enrollment. Please feel free to contact us with any questions at sha_admissions@cornell.edu

Sincerely,

Brad Walp
Executive Director of Enrollment Management
& International Academic Initiatives

hmmm I wonder if that letter was sent to only students from SHA. Did anyone get this from humec?

Only automatic response so far… feeling desperate

I just hope that school like humec and CALS still give the transfer option in mid-May

do you think that getting the transfer option means that I am not getting off of the waitlist for fall 18?

No, to me it sounds like they are looking for spots for you but if anything you still have the transfer option to fall back on.

Anyone heard back from CAS for Fall 2018 yet? (Am anxious, sorry).

Cornell says CAS Fall 2018 is already full, but I haven’t seen anyone get off the CAS waitlist yet

OMG. I got a call from SHA saying I got off the waitlist! Have hope guys! SHA is famous for not taking people off the list! Based on my calculations beforehand, I had approx a 0.03% of getting off it LOL

I find it extremely hard to believe that in a year where schools that usually take few to none from the waitlist like Eng and SHA decide to take a sizeable amount from waitlist, CAS would have over-enrolled. I am simply guessing (don’t take my word here) but could saying “Since we are unable to offer you admission into Fall 2018, we are giving you Spring 2019” be a standard email template for FYSA (and it also has a different meaning from saying “no CAS waitlists”). I don’t know. This is mere speculation. But I am definitely tensed.

@djin25 Congrats! Had you ever gotten the transfer email that I got?

Hey congrats! Did you get the call today? I thought the admissions wouldn’t be working during weekends…@djin25

@intlnavigator How do you know a sizable number of students are coming off of the SHA waitlist?

@djin25 Congrats! I am curious the Admissioners are still working during the weekend!

I sent my LOCI to undergradapp but didn’t get a response- only “thank you for emailing Cornell”. Is this ok?

@FiringSquad are you going to take the January admit?
