I’m a Biology major and I am majorly confused as to which school to pick, Cornell or Brown. The financial aids are very similar. On one hand, Cornell’s biology program is higher ranked and it is only 3.5 hours away. When I visited, the people were extremely nice and I got a really good vibe from the school. Cornell is known for being cut-throat competitive when it comes to acedemics though. On the other hand, Brown’s curriculum is so flexible which is nice because I have so many other acedemic interests such as philosophy. I also believe that my personality better matches Brown’s. Brown’s bio program is also really good, but much lower ranked than Cornell’s. Brown is 7.5 hours away for me. Such a hard decision…

Thoughts?

Brown > Cornell More impressive to get into

I think it depends on your interest in the non-bio subjects, what you want to do with your bio degree after undergrad studies, and which location/environment fits you better.

I am also considering Brown and Cornell (neuroscience major).

Come to ADOCH. We’re nice and like our pre-froshies. But you should go where you feel you fit more, and where you’ll be able to make the best use of the resources available to you.

If you are really undecided, try to have an overnight stay with student at each. (Brown has ADOCH, and if that doesn’t fit your schedule, try to find someone who knows someone who let you “crash” unofficially. Students seem to be very open to that most schools.) Go to classes, hang out. try to meet a bunch of people.
Distance should be the least of decisons, unless you are planning on being very home-sick and wanting to get home a bunch of weekends. (which most people do not want to do, even if they are 45 minutes away) or if you want to be further away to keep parents from “popping up” on weekends frequently!. Providence airport has lots of good cheap flights, and pretty easy to get to from campus, and walking distance from Amtrack, so may be easier to travel to and from.
Go where you think you will be happiest is my best advice!

How can u be undecided…these schools coyld not be more different…brown is more prestigious but weird in a fun way but if thats nit ur thing then cornell is all work but mistly nirmal kinda boring ppl

Go where you’ll be happiest for the next four years. At the level of quality that both Brown and Cornell are at (and for what it’s worth, graduate school department rankings are virtually meaningless to undergraduates), the difference in the quality of your education will be determined more by you than the institution.

Happiness and motivation go hand in hand. College requires a lot of independent responsibility for your education, and that includes pushing beyond what you felt you were capable of accomplishing and pushing out the far limits of your comfort zone. Go where these things are more likely to happen and you will get the best education possible.

I’m (sort of) a bio major–cognitive neuroscience. I looked into Cornell, honestly, and decided not to waste my time applying. I’m not sure where you’re getting your rankings, but Brown, at least IMO, is much more prestigious than Cornell. (D: sorry.)
They’re both great schools. But you said so yourself, Cornell is cutthroat. One of the reasons I picked Brown was for its atmosphere.
Cornell is also notorious for being the hardest ivy, whereas Brown has the highest average GPA of the ivies…
You also said you’re interested in philosophy and more academic interests. I don’t really know why you had to make this thread. It seems like everything you’ve said points you toward Brown.
I honestly think anyone who gets into Brown and Cornell should pick Brown. I’m obviously biased, but I hope my post helped. <3 choose Brown!
