Cornell vs Northwestern

hehe thanks guys!:) i appreciate all of your posts.

quynh2007 - haha i know! omg their application sucked. but u.chicago's is worse. thats why i decided to apply to only one hehe.:p

shizz - haha i was thinking about the colors and the mascots too!;) i'm sucha loser. but yeah, my current school color is red and white.. so i'm kinda sick of red, but i like bear more than a wild cat.:p

lol..that's a sleepy old bear that never make any noise. the wildcat can be very wild and feisty and occasionally surprise even the wolverines (UMich)! hey, don't forget they did beat the buckeyes last year!

Maybe not in football, but the bear makes plenty of noises in hockey. After all when was the last time Wildcats rank top three in the nation for any major sport.

Hockey's a major sport?

It's not a MAJOR sport, but Northwestern is #1 in Lacrosse. And its not really a sport at all, but Northwestern's debate team is practically always #1

And Northwestern's Women's tennis team is currently ranked #2 (Women's sports, in general, do quite well at NU), Luke Donald was the top collegiate golfer a few years back (with Men's golf similarly ranked highly). Really the only sports NU doesn't do 'well' in are Football and Men's Basketball, but even in those Northwestern has recently held its own. The football team was 5-3 in the Big Ten last year (even beating Ohio State) and the 2003-2004 Men's Basketball team finished with a 500 record in the Big Ten.

Wasn't the wildcat ranked 3rd going into the rose bowl in 96? It's been a while but i think i remember it right. i think they lost in the bowl game though, so the final poll probably put them as #8 or #9. In any case, I've been surprised how people know about Northwestern's surprising season that year. These days, no opponent takes Northwestern lightly anymore. Oops...sorry..this is not ESPN board. ;)

well, cornell's bhangra team has been consistently #1/#2 in the US (#1 this year), waaay more sporty (and FUN!) than debate, but we don't really talk about it...

Hmmm...I don't think many schools even have bhangra teams. ;)

NYU's bhangra team is pretty good, bhangra is big amongst the Boston schools...

Northwestern has not won a national championship in 50- or 60- something years. Cornell, on the other had, just won one in men's polo.

Not water polo.
polo.

[cough]

Anyway, Northwestern does have an undefeated (last I checked) women's lacrosse team, and that represents their best shot. Of course, you can't expect the Wildcats to be good in football or basketball when they play Michigan, Ohio State, Michigan State, and Illinois every year. Lucky for us at Cornell, we get to play Binghamton. And sometimes we win.

Hey, yeah, why are we comparing Northwestern athletics to Cornell's. The last time NU played an Ivy League school in football (against Princeton in the 80's), Northwestern won 37-0. Let's keep this discussion in the classroom where it belongs ;)
