I have been admitted to both Cornell Engineering and UC Berkeley Engineering. I plan on either studying Bio Engineering or Computer Science. At Cornell I do not have a declared major, but at Berkeley I am a Bio Engineering major. However, I have talked to an adviser at Berkeley and she said that she will help me create a schedule that would allow me to switch into EECS, if I later choose to. I would like to know the differences between the two schools.
In addition, I live on the East Coast, so I would also like to know how it is to attend a school that is far away from home vs a school that is closer to home.
I need to make my decision soon, so all help would be appreciated.
Stop making duplicate posts first off. It really just comes down to fit. If you feel like you will be happier at one school over the other, go to that school.
if you go on the Cornell sub-forum and search “Berkeley”, and vica versa, you will find approximately 600,000 prior threads on this general topic that, collectively, should provide lots of input that may be relevant.
Be nice, people.
OP – First, I’m going to assume that finances are not an issue (or that the cost for each school is roughly the same).
Cornell has a Fantastic Engineering School, So is Berkeley. One could make arguments for either, but, really, there is no right or wrong here.
Whichever you choose, you should have the option of choosing between your two preferred fields of study, so that’s not an issue.
So, which school do you prefer? If you have a mild preference for Berkeley, then the question is whether the Pain of Travelling is worth the mild preference.
Other than that, one question you might want to ask, is Where do you think you will want to settle after you graduate? If East Coast – well that’s another factor in Cornell’s column, if West Coast – it’s a factor for Berkeley. But again, to be perfectly honest, each is a National School, so whatever your choice, you won’t have closed any doors.
To make a long explanation short – you’ve asked a question that no one really can answer for you.
