Here it is. Friday emails were given Monday deadline to respond and just got off waitlist. Exciting.
Another set of emails went out Monday.

Congratulations! Can you pls put the timeline to this whole process? Such as - received email on this day, responded on this day, received the waitlist correspondence update on my portal at this day, received an email offer on this day … if possible! Thanks and well done!

We just got a waitlist email for engineering school. Need another 250 words of essay… Yuk!!! We already send out LOI back in early April.

My son also heard from COE this afternoon asking him for a small essay of why he is still interested and why he wants to pursue a specific major.

We received the same email today. It does not mention any response deadline though. (unlike the CAS emails referenced above)

Based on this application cycle he has no expectation whatsoever of being in a top pile for the WL. Assume most of those on the COE waitlist received this.
My daughter did receive this e-mail too. College of Engineering. I am sure all COE waitlisted students got this mail.
Why are you so sure that all COE waitlist students got that email?
Combed through reddit and other forums? Haven’t seen anyone NOT get it who was COE WL, unlike the CAS WL. Also, unlike that “soft offer” which demanded a fast reply, this one doesn’t?

You are correct in that no hard deadline was specified, but it does state:
“please complete this brief form as soon as you are able”
I read that as “ASAP”

But it is an essay to write so they must realize that this can’t happen too fast.
