Cornell Waitlist Class of 2024

So, I’ve heard Cornell has several plans for reopening. Someone told me that one of them being freshman and senior go to campus and sophomores and juniors stay home? What do you guys think will end up happening for such a large university?

Hey! With a child at Cornell, what do you think will end up happening in the fall? I’ve heard Cornell has several plans for reopening. Someone told me that one of them being freshman and senior go to campus and sophomores and juniors stay home?

Standford is the only school I have seen publish that plan. I agree it is a good approach to managing density but I have not see Cornell mention that.

These are the options Cornell has publicly discussed, but nothing has been decided.

Option 0 Normal calendar with everything online.

Option 1 Fall starts at the regular time on-campus and then wraps up online after Thanksgiving. Spring starts online at the regular time and switches to on-campus early March.

Option 2 Fall starts four weeks later on-campus, then switches to online after Thanksgiving, and wraps up in January. Spring starts end of January online and switches to on-campus mid-March.

Option 3 Fall starts two weeks later on-campus, stages an “final-exam-like” week just before Thanksgiving, then switches to online after Thanksgiving, and wraps up in December. Spring starts at the regular time online, then switches to on-campus early March, and wraps up in usual way one week later than normal

Option 4 Same as Option 3 except the Fall semester is split into a pair of half-semesters. The first starts just after Labor Day, is entirely on-campus, and ends with an exam period late October. The second half-semester begins shortly thereafter and switches to online after Thanksgiving.

Option 5 Same as Option 3 except the Fall semester is split into an 11-week module and a 5-week module. The former has on-campus final exams. The latter is online after a 2-day on-campus start. Students would take 3 or 4 courses in the first module and just one course in the second. A course offered in either module must be taught at an accelerated pace so that it “looks like” the normal 14-week version.

any movement for CAS? Because of the pandemic, how long do you all think we will be kept on the waitlist (any chance this will continue through the summer?? haven’t heard anything in quite a while)?

Which approach do you think they will most likely take?

I haven’t seen any CAS movement on CC or Reddit in the past week. When I emailed my AO she said waitlist was going from May to July, so yes deep into the summer

@nycgirlxo I believe Cornell has already said they will not be doing this as there is too much overlap amongst classes that it doesn’t work. My child for instance is at least a semester ahead, so as a freshman was taking sophomore classes. It wouldn’t be viable. I can’t remember if they sent this out in an email or posted it somewhere, but pretty sure I read that they ruled this to not be feasible, although to me if they did it, it would make the most sense to not have any freshmen on campus.

Did anyone else just get an email about remaining on the waitlist?

Yeah I did! It sounds kinda scary, but at the same time it’s reassuring that they aren’t done accepting students.

I got it too, they seem to just be preparing for the possibility of school being online and people deferring as a result.

I got the email as well

I recieved the email as well. In my opinion, I think it is more than likely that they are done accepting students. However, they are keeping the waitlist active as a safety net.

Yes I got the email

Is anyone submitting another update or sending in their final transcript?

Got the email too. At this point, I definitely agree they are waiting to see if people defer, etc. I do know they haven’t announced any official fall plans yet, so there’s no way for them to know the numbers which is why they are still keeping the waitlist.

Hey has anyone heard back?

Yeah i got the call yesterday accepted into CALS. no phone call or anything just the email

Congratulations!!! This is the very first and only acceptance for CALS waitlisted I’ve heard. I’m glad to know there is an end to this waiting madness. Well done! Thank you for sharing your news.

Congratulations!!! And thanks for sharing.

@Lordtoiletpaper congrats!! are you in-state and did you apply for financial aid? I’m still waiting on CALS
