Hi,
My name is Adam, I am a junior from long island, ny who is interested in the Cornell School of Hotel Administration. I am an Honors student who gets A's and occasional B+'s. I am involved in many extracurriculars and am an officer in a couple of clubs. I do community service and last year I placed in the top 10 internationally in the DECA competition "Restaurant and food service Management". For those of you who don't know what DECA is, it is "Distributive Education Club of America", and is comprised of tens of thousands of student in the US, Canada and other countries. Any way, I just wondered what else I can do to help my chances of admissions and do I stand a chance of getting in?

Thank you

Hi! Best of luck on your app! I am a frosh at the Hotel School. It is seriously an amazing program and I feel so lucky to be here!
The DECA stuff is great! Also, leadership positions in clubs, which you seem to have, are important. The grades will be fine - they mostly look for fit.
I would also advise getting a job or explaining how your volunteering/DECA work is related to your interest in the hospitality industry. This is a big part of your application.
If you have any hotelie questions (or general cornell questions), feel free to PM me or ask here!

thank you so much for responding to my question! my parents are kind of “iffy” about Cornell b/c they heard it is an extremely cut-throat and competitive environment from students. These students didn’t go the the Hotel School, but does the dog-eat-dog mentality dominate the Hotel School?

I wouldn’t say so from what I have noticed so far. The upperclassmen are very friendly and willing to offer advice on classes and such. While it is competitive, I don’t think it is super cut-throat (however, I have only been in classes for about 2.5 weeks).

ok, i appreciate your advice, good luck at sha!!!
