Any Advice for Cornell School of Hotel Administration?

Hey everyone!

I just recently found out about/familiarized myself with the hospitality industry and I really want to apply to Cornell School of Hotel Administration for RD.

I have a 2270 SAT score, 5 APs (four 5s and one 4), and 700+ subject tests. My ecs are the strongest point of my application, but problem is that they are more oriented towards International Relations or Political Science.

The only relevant job experience I have is being a waitress/hostess at a restaurant for around five months. How should I maximize my chances? Should I get a job at a restaurant right away? Try to find some sort of internship at a hotel? What does the School of Hotel Administration value the most?

Thank you all so much in advance.

No hotelis out there?

That’s fine, put that down. They’d like to see applicants have some hospitality experience but it doesn’t necessarily have to involve hotels. And yes, it’d be a good idea to continue working as long as it doesn’t have a negative impact on your grades. I think the Hotel School cares most about work experience and the interview and focuses less on grades and test scores, but I could be wrong. In any case, I’d write a good essay detailing what interests you about the program and what you could bring to the table. Also, have you considered applying to ILR? It seems more up your alley with your extracurriculars and whatnot.

I’m a GT for CALS so I don’t really know a lot about SHA admissions, but hopefully this helped. Best of luck!
