For corporate scholarships, are you automatically considered by having a parent that works at the company or do you need to fill out a form, and if so by when?

Also, do you need a certain score to win corporate scholarships, such as top scorer, or are you automatically entered in regardless of your score?

It probably varies by company. For our company, the parent has to fill out an application as early as the February before semifinalists are announced but I don’t know if that is done at any other company.

I think you are considered if you are Finalist who has a parent that works for a corporate sponsor and you or your parent filled out any required paperwork. However, it may be competitive to get a scholarship depending on how many scholarships a particular company sponsors. Some companies sponsor more scholarships than they have Finalist applicants and in that case may give the remaining scholarship money as “Special Scholarships” to students who score high even if not at semifinalist levels. In the case of competitive Finalist scholarships, a committee at NMSC decides who gets the scholarships based on criteria set by the company which may include other things on the application besides just scores.

@STEMFamily Thanks so much for your informative post! I wanted to make sure that I really had to fill out the form my parent had sent me, since it would not display on my computer (it needs to be opened in a company computer) and I did not feel like going to my parent’s company (tough luck).

I’ll look into filling out the form ASAP, even before knowing my psat score since it doesn’t hurt.
