Are we automatically entered for these or do we have to find them and fill out separate applications?

From what I know, the corporate scholarships are set up for the corporation's employee's children or other related people and they require a separate application to be considered. There may be some that are handled a different way, but I haven't heard of them.

In our case, my husband is employed by a company that sponsors NM scholarships. We were contacted by them last fall and filled out the forms. That's all I know.

In my case, it's my employer that has the scholarship. NM contacted us, and my d filled out the same application that NM semi-finalists filled out.

Depends- some corporations use National Merit to screen their candidates for them and only offer them to employee's children, there is also the situation where a corporation can give to NMF's without ties to them. Situation at son's school was such that at the awards evening the school made a distinction, one senior got a company based scholarship through NM but wasn't even a NM semifinalist, the NMF's were given separate recognition.

At my company there was a separate application to fill out. It's best to check with the employer.

When are students notified whether they receive these scholarships?

My d's application said early March. Boy, the waiting really stinks!

At our company, the sposored NM scholarships are for employees' kids only. There is an announcement sent out by email to employees, and a separate application for the students to fill out. We heard in April, and the company had a luncheon to recognize the winners. You shuld probably check with your respective employers for details.
