Correcting the FAFSA?

I am a rising college freshman.

I filed the FAFSA in February to meet my colleges' financial aid deadlines using my parents' tax returns for 2011. Mine hadn't been filed yet, so I put "will file" for my financial information at the time. My parents' tax information was completely correct.

I forgot to update the FAFSA after filing my taxes, and received a reminder email from FAFSA a few days ago. Should I update the FAFSA with the new information and send it to all my schools again? Or would that cause delays in my financial aid status? (I've read on CC about updates causing people to be considered as missing the priority deadline at some schools)

Any thoughts? I wanted to have some input before emailing.

Yes, update the FAFSA with the “already filed” and then add your numbers. Once you process a FAFSA the updates are processed within a day. The colleges may already have held your fin aid waiting for your final tax info anyway so there is no reason not to update.

Will this cause any delays in terms of getting my aid package by April 1?

batfan,

I would be more worried that there would be a delay if you left it as “will file”. Again, it only takes a day to process and the universities will have access to it once it has been.

Okay, thanks! I sent a quick email to my college just in case, but plan to update and send tomorrow. :)
