@The5458Captain I checked with the transcript office, and the lady there said that she sends out around 300+ transcripts to COSMOS every year, blah blah blah… She didn’t check whether she had sent it, though–she simply assumed she had. I emailed COSMOS UCSC about it, and I’m hoping that I don’t have to order another transcript from the school, since I have to pay three bucks to order one.
Oh my God decisions come out on April 17th!
Does anyone know about the admission statistics into UCI’s Biomed cluster?
I am so nervous. UCI’s biomed cluster is probably most competitive. I applied to another cluster as a backup.
Same, I applied for the computers one since it’s a little less competitive. It might have been better to get a letter of rec from my compsci teacher, but I’m pretty sure he doesn’t like me. It might have something to do with the fact that I once asked him if he got cold easily.
He is bald.
When are decisions coming out for UCI? I applied 5 and 1.
April 17
I applied for Number Theory/Discrete Math and Video Game Design at UCSC (I would have applied to Astronomy/Climate Change, but parental disagreement led to a compromise). COSMOS isn’t my first choice program, but I really hope I make it.
@topaz1116 I applied to those clusters as well! Maybe we’ll see each other there if we both get in.
My stats:
Rising sophomore @ somewhat competitive Bay Area high school
UW GPA: 4.0
Current STEM classes: Math Analysis (pre-calculus), Biology, Intro to CS (my school doesn’t offer AP classes to freshmen on a normal basis and has no honors or IB courses)
PSAT: 204 = 80 M + 59 CR + 65 W (I wonder if it would’ve been better to omit it)
Extracurriculars:
I listed computer science and math clubs as well as speech and debate and participated in a lot of competitions (but sadly no awards…)
I thought my essays were solid
I think my teacher recommendations are decent as well. My biology teacher knows me quite a bit and I (or at least, am willing to) participate a lot during pre-calculus.
I would prefer for people to not chance me, but if you must, feel free to.
I didn’t put my PSAT in, maybe I should have (I got a 216, but you got a higher math score than I did; and you’re a freshman!). I don’t have many STEM ECs (I think only two out of the five I listed were STEM; two were humanities and one was performing arts), but I know that my essays/recs were very good.
Hopefully we both got in!
Intensely waits for April 17
Same
I applied to UCD clusters 7:biomed and 3: intro to engineering mechanics
I have a 4.5 GPA (4.0 UW)
Math Club Treasurer, Science Bowl, Robotics, Volunteering (medical clinic, local library, school library tutor, local muslim and bangladeshi community) Internship with non-profit cancer company
217 PSAT (althought of course there was no place to put this)
I got 3rd place at the regional science fair and an award from the APA, but this was on March 14 and after the application deadline ao I wasnt able to include it
Good essays, Decent recs I think
@The5458Captain How do you feel about cheesecake?
New York cheesecake is my life
@happydragon Cheesecake as in the delicious dessert or the act of helping another FIRST robotics team by adding another component to their robot? (I’d react positively to both.)
I’m sorry if you meant the first reference instead of the FIRST reference (I have to stop these bad jokes). I’m just excited because my robotics team’s going to world champs in a couple of weeks.
@The5458Captain wow, that’s really cool! I don’t do FIRST at my school (in part because the team goes nowhere beyond regionals because of other teams with professional welding and stuff), but it seems fun.
@topaz1116 Thanks! FIRST is challenging, but it’s also really exciting–it’s one of the best things that’s ever happened to me.
Actually, my team is a rookie team, and we qualified for champs because another team “cheesecaked” our robot (heh) and because we won the Rookie All-Star Award, which basically commends us for everything we do outside of competition (e.g. community service).
