I’m filling out my COSMOS app rn and I’m at the part where are asking for “Academic Activities.” I have a bunch of extracurriculars, but I have two that I want. Here’s a list below of all of them (that I might want to list), so please help me pick which ones to put down:
Boy Scouts (Eagle Scout w/ Bronze Palm)
VEX Robotics (Outreach Officer; Team qualified for the CREATE US Open in 2018)
LaunchX (Club President)
RoboSub (Vice President of Business)
Musician (Trumpet player for 6 years; Wind Ensemble member (highest level band) and Marching Band member; Section leader for 5 years)
Should I put RoboSub and VEX in the academic activities area? And then include Eagle Scout and Musician (and if possible LaunchX) in the personal statement?
it does ask for more STEM-related activities, so i would say yeah put those in the dedicated activities section and elaborate more on your other extracurriculars in your ps if you want. i’m having trouble with this too, since i don’t know whether to include science olympiad if i only did it in middle school
@dreamclouds I’d say that if you don’t have anything else, list it. But if you have something else even remotely STEM related, I’d list that.
I sent an email to my school counselor, and she said that previous students who have gotten in have listed things like Boy Scouts, Music, and Sports. Like if Robotics is 5 hrs per wk for 40 wks, but Soccer is 10 hrs per wk for 52 weeks (if the non-STEM shows more commitment (like twice the time or more) than the STEM), then it’s up to you. If not, then stick with STEM.
@tp3208 ah that makes sense. do you know if the “years” section means the years you did it (ex: 2015-2018) or the # of years? i’m guessing the former, but just to make sure
