@catras how do you know they changed the GPA ? I don’t see it anywhere except where it was self reported. They will typically see both transcripts imo. I had called them regarding my sons transcripts who has one from school and one from community college , and was told to submit both. So don’t worry, they will look at both. However it won’t hurt to call and ask to set your mind at ease
@DD2019 Others have said they sometimes change the GPA in the same place it was self-reported once they look at your transcript.
Thank you!!
@awesomeprick nope lmao, but I dont think it will until march 29th.
For the GPA change, they automatically calculate your GPA based on their own scale. For example, I had a 4.0 UW and a 4.3 W when I submitted. That changed to 4.0 UW and a 4.5 W after they recalculated.
@GoBears2023 Okay, thank you! Do you know how much a 3.68 GPA (on their scale I guess) will affect my application? My ECs are good and my essays are pretty strong.
What grade are you in?
Does anyone know how competitive Cluster 3 “Mathematical Modeling in Tissue/Tumor Biology” at UCI is?
@GoBears2023 10th grade
@catras I contacted them about the whole GPA issue. They told me that they weigh A-s as a 3.7, and As/A+s as 4.0.
The same thing happened to me, my GPA went from 4.0 to 3.91.
@holdmypencil123 Thank you so much! Also, the application changed from when GoBears2023 applied, so they probably used to ask for weighted GPA.
i had a few A- but my gpa still shows a 4.0
Yes, I think it may have changed. I was supposed to input both W and UW GPA.
I don’t think they take into account - and +. I could be wrong.
(Edit: never mind, seems like @holdmypencil123 has more up to date info on the GPA thing)
@treehugger14 They told me an A- is a 3.7 through email. Maybe they haven’t reviewed your transcript yet?
@holdmypencil123 my application says “in review” so i dont think so. could it be that they considered those A-s as 4.0 because they were in AP classes?
so far I have been rejected from two UC’s and I am questioning if going to COSMOS was even worth it
It was worth it, you learned the college life and many different STEM topics. Also don’t worry, the UCs are a literal crapshoot, my friend had perfect SATs and was denied to UC Davis and UCSD, its so random dude.
@flowerss hey, I’m sorry that the admissions process isn’t going exactly how you might want it to. Wherever you end up will be lucky to have you there, and you will have an amazing experience at just about any college you attend.
The point of COSMOS is not to give you a boost in admissions. It gives you the experience of immersing yourself in a subject you’re interested in and surrounding yourself with other sciencey people. No matter where I end up, I know that the lessons I learned and the experiences I gained at COSMOS have sincerely changed my life for the better.
Who else is nervous for next friday
