has anyone attended cluster 9: sustainable civil infrastructure at uci and can tell me about it
@peapickle @holdmypencil123 yup, acceptance definitely varies per cluster. Iād say that which cluster you apply to affects you more than the campus
Have you guys set up your application account? I kept getting a message: there was issue sending the confirmation email. and I never got the confirmation email.
@awesomeprick That happened to me too! I think that it will actually send an email when the application opens, this Friday ( January 4th) at 5 PM PST.
Hey guys, I am currently a freshman in an international school. And Iām interested in cluster 1 quantum mechanics in UCD campus. My GPA is not that competitive since my school offers AP classes yet only gives us the uw gpa (for me it is 3.8, and Iām taking AP HumanGeo, AP Stats, AP Phy 1, Honors Eng Lang, Honors Eng Lit, and Pre-Calculus). And I am doing some research projects with my personal tutor (who is a doctoral tutor as well) as well as learning calculus and advanced number theory with him. My question is that is cluster 1 a competitive program and is my profile has a chance getting in?
And my class rank is not high(15%) since other people are taking less challenging classes than mine (meaning higher gpa than me).
I went to UCSC last year and acceptance rates were 10-25% generally. Some clusters are definitely more competitive than others. The average (weighted) GPA for people who got in was around 3.9, I believe.
Hey @GoBears2023! Thank you so much for the helpful comments. I applied to COSMOS last year (as a freshman to UCD Biomed), and was rejected. Itās aight though, cause I know understand that I wasnāt actually that qualified. But this year, Iām applying to UCSC Cluster 7. Whatās your opinion on applying to a new cluster, in respect to how competitive it is? Also, I looked at some of your other stats (in other threads), and wow, youāve accomplished a lot! I was wondering if I could PM you about some other stuff too.
hey guys i went to cosmos last year and yea acceptance rates def depend more on what type of cluster instead of a specific site
@lihjtvcie not that many people applied to ucsc cluster 7 last year so go for it!
if my ECs arenāt great (not really STEM-related), can i get in with just a decent essay and GPA (3.9 UW and 4.0 W)?
How competitive are those Machine-learning related clusters? I found two clusters at different sites. Any significant difference between those?
Are we supposed to pick two clusters and write one essay for each of them?
I tried to send a private message to someone. I clicked the username, but couldnāt see the orange āmessageā button.I also clicked āinboxā on the top right corner, but there is no option for new message.
Never mind. I got it.
New clusters tend to be easier to get into. For example, the UCSD campus created a new music and tech cluster a few years ago and I know a couple people with really sub par stats get in. I would say that UCSC Cluster 7 should be relatively easier to get into than the UCD Bio Cluster because the UCD Bio Cluster is the most prestigious cluster in the entire COSMOS system in my opinion. Yes, feel free to PM me with any other questions or if you need help with something.
The site to which you apply to will matter, since the acceptance rate will fluctuate. Machine learning clusters will be quite competitive given the fact that all CS people want to get jobs within that field.
@Gobears2023 are you aware of anybodyās stats who got into machines learning?
@awesomeprick if you mean the UCSC machine learning cluster vs the UCI machine learning cluster, the UCSC cluster is more established and more well-known since itās been around for at least a few years. the UCI machine learning cluster is new for 2019, so itāll most likely be less competitive, especially since UCI as a whole tends to be the least competitive campus. it depends on you - if you think your stats are good enough, iād say go for UCSC because it will probably offer a better experience than the newer UCI cluster. but if you want less competition, go for UCI
@dreamclouds the ucsc machine learning cluster is new this year as well
