COSMOS 2019

@excitedstapler81 Do you have any recommendations on what we should write our statement of interest on?

@faevivi personally I don’t know everyone and their interests, but what I would say to someone is to write about something that they are passionate about. Even if someone doesn’t excel at the activity, writing about how passionate it makes them is a good starting point.

@GoBears2023 When you wrote about the application of combination into machine learning and game theory, did you include that in your essay or in the response to why you pick that cluster? If the 2nd cluster you select is quite different from machine learning, how could your essay apply to the 2nd cluster?

@GoBears2023 Also, when you attended as freshman, you were rising 9th grade? Meaning, you applied as 8th grader? What is the acceptance rate for 8th graders?

@awesomeprick I have heard very few 8th graders get in.

what are the stats for those 8th graders?

@awesomeprick Not sure, but probably really good, as they got in as 8th graders. What are your stats?

@awesomeprick
No, I got in as a rising 10th grader, so my freshman summer. I had two 8th graders in my cluster, both of which are the smartest people I know to date. One of them skipped 3 grades of math and is currently doing some type of early program at Stanford. The other one has attended Ross twice and is a perfect scorer on the AMC10, AMC12, and AIME.

@awesomeprick
Acceptance rate for 8th graders is kinda weird, since COSMOS only looks for 8th graders who’ve shown that they are gifted in STEM, such as skipping grades of math or doing some really cool project.

I wrote about machine learning and game theory in the “why this cluster” essay. My second cluster choice was some type of robotics cluster, so I talked about autonomous systems and self-driving cars.

Great! Guys. This is very helpful.

what are the chances of me getting into the UCI cluster 7(bioengineering)
Im in the 10th grade
I have a 3.83 UW Im taking two honors classes this year because that is all my school offers
My STEM related ECS are:
I have developed an app to help with neurological disorders
I am an officer of a neuroscience club
I know many computer languages
I have did a research project my freshman year for a science fair
Im taking AP Bio

@Spectralnight there isn’t a place for it, maybe essays?

I went to COSMOS @ UCI this past summer (2018) and did not have the best stats so there is hope for those of you who think they might not get in.

what is the uci biotech cluster like is it hard to get into

@flowerss Which cluster did you get into? can you share some of the stats you know of UCI?

hey does anyone know anything about intro to engineering mechanics at UC Davis? acceptance rates, application tips etc… im really interested in the topic and really want to get in

How do you personal message someone?

yoo wassup rohan

@holdmypencil123 what clusters are you planning to do? I might do UCSC idk which ones

Hi Guys!
I needed some help on choosing what course to apply for.

I am a rising 10th grader with a keen interest in math and physics, and have boiled down my course choices to a few

DAVIS:
Introduction to Engineering Mechanics
Mathematics
Introduction to Astrophysics
Quantum Physics and Applications to Nanotechnology

Santa Cruz:
Number Theory is the only one I’m interested in, but if it is worth it, I will apply for this campus.

My math background is mostly in contest math. I’m a 2 time AIME Qualifier and AMC 12 Distinguished Honor Roll Recipient, hopefully that gives some indication of my mathematics level.

If you would recommend any computer science courses please do so as well.
My background in CS is also mostly contest based. I’m a USACO Gold level contestant.
