COSMOS 2019

@dreamclouds thank you and good luck!

@1student3 you too :slight_smile:

how do you guys calculate weighted and unweighted GPA? Or the school does it for you?

@sharksrcool those stats are similar to mine when I was a freshman and I got into a bio related cluster at COSMOS last year. I would say your chances are pretty good if you have solid references and a compelling essay!

@awesomeprick they should be on your high school transcript

Are most COSMOS participants in 9th and 10th grade?

Actually, most participants are rising seniors, as it is their last chance to apply and go.

Overall, Which cluster is the easiest to get in?

Are STEM teachers preferred than others for the recommendation? what about one STEM teacher, one counselor?

I have two math teachers for different math courses. I can also get one recommendation from the counselor. which one is better? 1 counselor plus 1 math teacher or two math teachers?

Can you list more than 2 activities in the application?

Hi, Iā€™m a sophomore currently residing in the Bay Area. I was wondering what my chances are of getting into UCSD cluster 8: tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. I heard that this cluster was one of the most competitive ones in UCSD (only about 10 people get in). I currently have a 4.0 uw gpa (4.47 weighted I believe). Iā€™m currently taking AP Biology (hoping that this will give me a boost, as pretty few sophomores take this class), chemistry honors, precalc honors, AP english lang, part of my school newspaper, french 3 honors, chinese AP- outside of school. I do a sport which is probably the highlight of my application and Iā€™m going to write about that and tie it in with biology, but I donā€™t really have any other ecs. Do you guys think I have a good shot at getting in?

@awesomeprick I think whoever you think will speak better to your abilities. If you think theyā€™ll both write equally good recs, I would probably go for the math teacher especially if youā€™re applying to a math-related cluster.

Does anyone know how competitive UCI Cluster 2 (Computation and Machine Learning) and UCD Cluster 9 (Mathematical Modeling in Biological Systems) are, and also some of the non-competitive/new clusters at COSMOS?

Hi everyone! I went to COSMOS at UCD, and it was definitely the best summer of my life. A lot of you guys are focusing on which clusters are the least competitiveā€“do not make that a deciding factor in your choice. Making my cluster selections was easy, because I focused on what I was passionate about. All the clusters are competitive, just pick the one that interests you the most, even if it is a competitive cluster at a competitive campus. If your passion shines through, you have a chance.
The majority of the COSMOS participants were rising seniors, however there were many rising juniors (me!), and even a few sophomores (I didnā€™t meet any freshman).

The application has only space for 2 academic activities.

Where can we add additional activities that we want to mention ?
Can these go on the personal statement ?

Wondering if personal statement can be a place to mention interests and accomplishments beyond what is filled in the academic activities field.

I am kind of lost on what activities to put down. Can anybody share some activities theyā€™re putting down? Thanks.

What is the acceptance rate like for different COSMOS campuses, and what are generally the least/most competitive clusters?

I agree with your points

Hey guys I attended COSMOS at UCSD this past summer. If you guys have any questions about it feel free to PM me!
