What is the average cost of med school? I realize it varies greatly, but is it going to be about that same as undergradate school? What is the availability of scholarships for med school like?

Keep in mind that those stats did not include (at least as I could tell) living expenses. You take out loans for those too when in med school (unless you're lucky and marry someone or live at home). The way in which those amounts are determined varies. Some schools just give you a set amount per month (like $1500) and say "make it work". Others will start with a base amount then add in specific values of your expenses like cell phone bill, cable bill, etc.

In the end, while it's a lot of debt, it's not something you should really worry about too much until you actually have been accepted. You'll be able to pay off what you accumulate, and the debt load is considered "good" debt in the eyes of lenders.

So an instate med school is going to run me about 40k a year? That is a bummer, but I guess I should complete college before worrying about it too much. Thanks guys.
