Hello,
I am an Asian Indian Male, and here are some of my stats,
-resident of Georgia
-SAT: 1460 superscored (790M, 670CR+W)
-GPA: 4.00 weighted, class rank is approx. 170/725 (barely top 25%, but my school is over-competitive)
my only Bs are in phys ed and dual enrollment gov
-Extracurriculars: NHS, Science National Honor Society, Social studies National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, BETA Club (treasurer), SGA, Cyberpatriot, FIRST Robotics (we went to world champs last year), BEST Robotics
-my essay and supplemental writings were pretty decent
-senior year load (AP Calculus BC, AP Physics, AP Chemistry, AP Physics 1, AP Microeconomics/Macroeconomics, AP Computer Science Principles)
-I have taken Dual Enrollment Gov and AP Computer Science A in my junior year
-Honors: FIRST Robotics World championships subdivision winners, Pascal Math contest (Waterloo) top 25% in grade 9
-Now here is the story. I came from Canada in September 2016. Since schools started here in August, I was put in a bunch of on-level courses and I wasn’t able to switch out of any. The only college course I took as AP CSA. My old school in Canada had no college level courses at all, so my GPA was 3.9W when I came here.
Another point is that almost all of the ECs I have listed I have only joined in senior year (again, i came too late into the year and inductions already happened). The only two ECs that I have from junior year are FIRST and BETA.
Keeping all of this in mind, do you think I’ll make the cut into GT Early Action 2022 when I applied for CS as my primary and Math as my secondary?
Let me know if you need any clarifications or have further questions.
Thank you for helping out!
There’s a good chance that GT will know a lot about your HS and will take the competitiveness into account. Make sure your GC informs them of your relocation from Canada and the reason your Junior year classes were not AP or Honors. I’m guessing they’ll be less familiar with your former HS. If they need a transcript from them, you may want to make sure that the GC at the old school notes that you took the most rigorous curriculum that they offered (assuming that’s the case). GT won’t penalize you for not being able to take more advanced classes at your HS.
GT may ask for mid-term grades if that’s something they do in order to see how you’re doing with what looks like an almost full AP load. SAT score is in range, and being a GA resident will definitely help. The acceptance rate last year was 45% in-state, 18% OOS. You’re probably looking at a 50/50 chance for EA (maybe better) with a good chance for deferral and acceptance in RD vs a rejection.
thank you @shortnuke i will make sure that i try to maintain A’s by the end of this semester
Your chances should be >50% as the poster above said.
I myself am in the same situation as you, except that I moved from Bangladesh in October of Junior year. I am applying for Computer Science.
(a)My SAT superscore is 1450 and I’m out of state
(b)My weighted is a 4.14
©I also have done an internship at a software company
(d)Did lot of volunteering back at home for the community
However, I didn’t include any clubs from my American High School, as I was unaware about its weight and it also took me time to adjust. I also have got a bit of autism (just to let u know). Do you think I stand a chance of admission? Thx
Your GPA is pretty good, your extracurricular seem great, and your SAT seems on par. If you are considered a GA resident, then I would say that you can get accepted (or deferred at worst).
