Hey, I am a junior in high school this year and I was thinking about applying to Georgia Tech as my first choice next year. I just wanted to know what my chances of getting into Georgia Tech was from you guys.
I am at a really competitive high school ( actually 15th in Pennsylvania ) and I am taking all of the hardest classes. My GPA un-weighted is a 3.89. I have taken AP world history, AP US history and Human Geography last year. AP comp sci, physics 1, env science and psychology this year. And I am taking AP calc bc, lang, gov, macro econ, and chem next year. I haven’t taken the actual sats yet, but i got an average of 2000 on my practice tests (750 maths, 650 reading, 600 writing) but i can probably improve. I actively participate in a lot of clubs. I am a member of NHS and the National forensics league. I do policy debate and i have placed 2nd in jv in the philadelphia region last year and i am doing varsity this year. I am in programming club, hi-q(academic competition), computer club, french club, unicef club, model un, co-president of video game design and south asian club.
Your EC’s are pretty diverse, almost too much so. What you have done in debate is good but regarding the other clubs, if possible, try and focus on being an active contributor in just a few (not to say you can’t go to the others, but I don’t even think Common App has that many spaces to list extra curricular activities haha. Ignore this of course if you are heavily involved in every club you listed, though you might want to consider dropping one to get more time to work on academics :P). It’ll show you are willing to work hard (something Tech values a lot) and will maybe even give you some good essay fodder. As for SAT’s, this year Tech’s average was above a 2100 and as a South Asian (as I am figuring you are for being a part of the south asian club) you will likely require one above 2200 to get in. (Personally I have an Indian, male friend who got rejected even with a 2220 so who knows). Essentiallyl just work hard on raising that and making sure it is as good as possible. Other than that I think you are fine as long as you have a good essay (start working over the summer)! Good luck and don’t worry about it too much!
