The reason I know this is because we already made our 4-year plans, and mine was approved. I want to score in the 750-800 range on my SATs. I review nightly. I am aiming to be a National Merit Finalist. Here are my current EC's:

-School Reading Council: There are no leadership positions in this club. We are all fervent readers. We read a large amount of recommended books throughout the year (most of which are either classis or NY Times bestsellers). We review all these books and then pick which one should become the school's summer reading book.

~National Science Honor Society: Currently just a member. I would like to be president or VP when I am in junior/senior year. I like this club a lot because we focus on inspiring kids to consider future STEM careers, which is a job I have a lot of experience in..

~Ambassadors: I am a school ambassador. I will run for a leadership position when I am a senior, which is when you can run. Basically I give tours of our school and interest kids in coming. I also attend school events meant for prospective students.

~Environmental Protection Agency: I am in my school's chapter. I am quite passionate about environmentalism and preservation of the world we live in. I am running for president junior year, and I would like to conduct a service project or two with this club.

~Biomedical Club: Medicine/Biology is a major career I am considering for myself, so naturally I am a member.

~Volunteer Work: I am a volunteer at my local science museum. Currently, as a freshman, I have 340 hours. I want to make it to 350-370 by the end of the school year. I am a docent in the biology exhibit. I was a nominee for the top volunteer award. I also conducted a service project with them, in which I helped develop a program for volunteers and staff members to interact more as a community. I may or may not add a volunteer job at a children's hospital next year, but I am still debating whether I should or not, as I really love the museum.

~Summer: I attend a 1-month camp at the base of the Rockies in CO, and I have been for the past five years. It is named one of the top camps in the United States. No, it is not an academic camp, but I would not trade my summers there for any other experience in the world. Nowhere else could I get up at 2:00 AM to hike a mountain with my best friends, or go on a 5-day backpack through RMNP and sleep under the stars. Besides teaching me how to respect nature and the environment, the camp stresses character and personal development, which is one of the features I love most. I will continue to go there each summer, and for older girls, they have a leadership training program that I will definitely apply for. I may also, in the next coming summers, go to some invitation-only medical seminars I have been invited to based on my PSAT scores, or take on a biology/medical research internship.

~Flute: I play the flute. I am auditioning for my city's intermediate/advanced youth orchestra either sophomore or junior year, I haven't decided which. I may also begin competing. I have been playing since 4th grade.

~Girl Scouts: I have been in the program since 1st grade. I have earned my bronze and silver award, and am going for my gold award next year. I will be focusing on either the environment (because I love nature) or literacy (I love to read), and I am leaning towards literacy.

My school does not have a Science Olympiad team, so I am thinking about starting one either next year or the coming year after that. I am still going over the details.

These are pretty much all my credentials as for now. Please no comments saying "but you haven't done any of these things yet." I understand that, but I am very driven, and I am doing my best to plan out the coming years. Any commentary/advice is appreciated. Thank you so much.

Also, I am going to join regular National Honor Society as well.

it’s good to have dreams, but without grades and SAT scores, it’s pretty pointless to speculate. Have Barnard as an option as well; they have a higher acceptance rate. Good luck.

just prove that you have the potential to change the world

If everything happens according to plan, you have a good chance at Columbia, just remember to have your personal statements awesome too. However, I know that you’ve emphasized that you have the drive, but it is still hard to say that everything will go according to plan. I’ve made plans myself in freshman year and they normally do not go as planned, you just never know when accidents may happen that are beyond your control or expectations. By the way, taking 8 AP’s in a year is probably too rigorous, you don’t have to do that to prove that you’re hardworking. Skieurope is also correct in that without grades and SAT scores we can’t really chance anything; your plans are also a chance themselves. Columbia University also wants to see their students as not merely A+ robots, but people who, like soapio mentioned, have the potential to succeed in life and influence the world. I know this might not be the answer that you want (or you don’t want), but we really DON’T know anything yet. It’s actually quite hard to get the academics of your whole high school career done according to plan. If you do though, you’re awesome.
