I am currently a high school junior and I know that it is probably too early to be on forums and whatnot, but I have to pick science classes for senior year this week. I know that W&M wants students to have taken calculus and physics. Next year, I will be taking AP Gov, AP Lit, and AP Stats. This year I am taking AP US History and AP French. I currently have a weighted GPA of 4.25. I am the VP of MUN and president of the French club at my school. I am tennis captain as well. I was a campaign and legislative intern this past summer for a MA state rep and am currently a research analyst intern for the same rep. This summer, I will be interning for a MA state senator. I am also part of a small team of high schoolers participating in Tufts Inquiry (international relations program like MUN). Senior year, I will not be taking calculus because I NEED stats, and I am unsure if I should take physics due to my standing senior course rigor. Are physics and calc so heavily stressed that someone like me could not get in?
I have known students who did not take one of those senior year and got into William & Mary, but I would be wary of not taking both, simply because the competitiveness of getting in. You do not have to take the highest level of each subject, I knew that physics and calculus were not my strengths, so I could honors levels versions of them senior year and took other classes I enjoyed. I would also have your guidance counselor mention that you have to take statistics instead of calculus senior year in her recommendation if you cannot take it at all. I would also urge you to email the admissions office directly if this a concern to you, they are very open to responding to student questions and get questions like this all the time.
Thank you @shawnspencer - very helpful!
