I was wondering if it would be acceptable to submit a well developed essay on how I’ve had personal experience with substance abusers and after an experience where I saved my friends brothers life when he overdosed on heroin (don’t worry I got my BLS certification in HS), I knew for sure that social work is what I wanted to major in? I never took drugs but would the admissions panel be skeptical? Is it a really touchy subject? Any tips on how I could make it a winning essay? This experience was life changing for me…
It could work. It really depends on how you portray yourself, while still respecting your brother in the essay by not airing all his dirty laundry, and focusing more on your growth than the drama of the situation.
