Is it okay to write an essay on my brothers drug/alcohol problem when writing an essay or is that too much info?

If it has affected you and tells about who you are then you should go for it.

Even for a Christian college? Will it affect my chance of getting accepted in a negative manner? The school expels you if you have alcohol/drugs on campus.

Not sure what that has to do with anything, unless you’re going to be condoning his drug use.

As long as it’s not your drug problem, go for it! But make sure to relate it to you-- what have you learned from it? If you can’t write a decent essay on how your borther’s drug/alcohol problem changed you, then you should choose a different topic.

Thank you!!!

I’d say it’s a fair topic if you can tie it back to yourself.

I’d say be careful about this one. The danger here is having an essay about your brother, not you. Just tying it back to yourself may not be enough.
This is your opportunity to show the colleges who you are. Is this the best topic to help you do that? If so, ok.

Is this the best topic to illuminate the reader about yourself and make you an attractive, interesting, talented addition to the campus? That said, it’s all in the writing, and I’d have a trusted teacher read it over after you have an edited draft done.
