I had always been interested in science since I had been in elementary school, but it wasn't until my sophomore year in high school when I had to write an essay concerning my future. I was supposed to write about what I wanted to do after high school. I had not even begun to think of anything I wanted to do. I knew I liked science and after freshman year I had a growing interest in human bodies and medicine. I loved learning about health and biochemistry I thought about being a teacher, but I thought that I could do more. I wanted to help people overcome illnesses, but I knew that becoming a doctor did not interest me at all. I was more fascinated by drugs and how they affect parts of the body. I told my parents about my interests and asked for their input. They told me immediately about pharmacy school, becoming a pharmacist, and more specifically about St. Louis College of Pharmacy. My parents even told me that being a pharmacist was the only thing they could envision me becoming. After that I did research about pharmacists and pharmacy school. After a couple hours of researching, I realized that becoming a pharmacist was perfect for me. Everything about the St. Louis College of Pharmacy seemed perfect for my interests. I read about classes I would take they seemed so interesting. This is how I discovered that St. Louis College of Pharmacy would be the best fit for me. I am the type of person that would rather have a studious environment than being a school where the focus is social activities. I would also prefer to get into a 0-6 program such as the one offered at St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Now that getting a degree in Health Sciences is offered, I am even more interesting in attending the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Another aspect I like about going to St. Louis College of Pharmacy is the fact that even though I will be living in the same city, I will be living in a completely new area with new experiences, and overcome new obstacles. One instance where I've met and overcome adversity is with being in my high school band. It may seem that being in band is no big deal and it is easy, but in order to succeed, an abundance of hours need to be put in toward the band activity. I give up a month in the summer, after school hours to rehearse, Friday nights to perform at football games, and Saturdays to travel to competitions. Along with practicing my solo on my own time, most of my time is dedicated to band. I have to balance school with band. My freshman year is was even a greater challenge due to the band receiving a new director. I have overcome that obstacle and have found a system that allows me to finish homework early for days when I am unable to do so due to band. This system takes away from some social aspects but I am fine with that since school is my first priority. I get to see my friends when I rehearse so I can talk to them there. That is why I want to be a pharmacist, why the St. Louis College of Pharmacy is perfect for me, and how I've overcome adversity in my past.
