I am an international student desperately trying to get into a good US College or University. I have good extracurriculars - the national level quiz champion of my country, in the top 12.5% of my high school graduating class, and the president of a voluntary organization. (etc.)

I studies A Levels in the best school of my country and scored As in 4 subjects, a B and a C in the other two subjects respectively. It is norm for most students to take only 3 GCE A Levels subjects here but then I took six of them.

Futhermore, in my SAT II s, I scored 760, 740 and 690 respectively. I am yet to take my SAT I.

Anyone viewing this thread, could you please tell me are my stats good enough to get into a College like Amherst??

They appear to be in the range, although I don't know much about international grading, and how hard it is to get into amherst as an international. It's worth a shot, especially if your SAT 1's will be in the range.

Amherst is not need blind to international students. So, it also depends on how much financial aid you ask for. If you require huge sum, like I do, you are in the toughest applicant pool. Apply to Amherst, the best school, as I see, but also choose other schools, like Vassar, Trinity, Colorado College. One suggestion--honors colleges in some large public schools are good as well, good for safety schools. I am also a freshman in a honors college of a public school in US and I am applying for transfer to Amherst.

It also depends how you present yourself. I had better stats than yours but I had problems that forced me to run through my application and essay. So, I was not accepted by top LACs. Apply yourself. Best of Luck

It also depends where you are from.
The less people from your country apply to US colleges the better for you (there seem to be especially many applicants from China, India and the UK).

Thanks lemonjello, intl_transfer and b@r!um for your responses.

I am from Nepal, and I will be applying to around 15 colleges, all of them from the United States. I think I will do good in SAT I and for SAT II, I will give a retake in January, cause I think I can get in range of over 2350 +. I studied in Budhanilkantha School.

ma pani nepali nai hu bro...good luck...see u at amherst :) hopefully!

if you can get 2350+ you will get admission to a good college with financial aid...don't worry but choose some safeties wisely...budanilkantha bata ta sabai top top ma janchan ni bro with full ride...ma chahi +2 walla huh, so my knowledge of colleges was limited and i am not in a top LAC, but i think i am good enough to get aceepted by one now...4.0:)

Probably you will have competition with your own peers from Budanilkantha for a spot at Amherst more than anybody else...or sb from SXC. Good luck!

I think Williams College, which is a lot like Amherst, says that it is need-blind for international applicants. It's worth looking into, anyway.

Thanks for the advise Grace, but then from the high school I am applying, many people are applying to Williams. Plus I heard that Amherst requires a high standard of English, in which , I think I can outsmart the people in my school. Therefore I opted for Amherst.
