counselor rec question

i have taken a very rigorous course load the past 4 years, but im worried my counselor may have indicated otherwise because our school counselors probably dont care and are lazy and probably put something random down. will colleges still look at the transcript itself and make their own judgement from there? also how much would it hurt if the counselor wrote nothing down for the written parts because i wouldnt be surprised

welcome to the adult world. Not everyone out there (salespeople, your managers at work, etc) is going to have your best interests at heart. It is up to you to watch out for yourself, at at the moment that would have meant building a decent relationship with your GC so that you got an accurate counselor report. Although I’ll go out on a limb here and suggest that sometime over the past 4 years they may have gotten a whiff of your opinion of them as lazy and uncaring. Just a guess…

Do colleges care what counselors say? Well, do you think they know what is taught at each of the tens of thousands of HS in the country? Or do they trust the GC who actually works there to tell them whether a kid has taken a tough load? They will get the school report which lists what is offered and they can look at your transcript to see what you took, but in many cases I think they’ll give a fair amount of weight to the person actually working there.

You have a very low opinion of your counselor. Why?

What reason would your counselor have to lie and misrepresent your course load? Remember, along with their recommendation, counselors send a school profile and secondary school report, so colleges can see for themselves what courses are offered at your high school - so they can also determine the level of rigor despite what the counselor says.
