Counselor refuses to write the Secondary School Report

Is there anyone else whom I can ask for this report? Like my grade-level secretary/assistant principal/vice principal/principal/ career center coordinator???? :(:(:(

Thanks.

What?!?! But that's like... their job.

Talk to your principal or even your superintendent if you have to. Your counselor needs to do that.

Real?
Wow I thought my counselor was bad... he's only writing out 4 different apps for me. I tried to push in a 5th one and he got soooo grouchy.. Thank god for the common app.

Is there a reason why he/she wont?

She said she doesnt accept anything after oct. 20. So it is kind of my fault.

If I cannot get a "rec letter" from her (She's new and is in charge of 700+ students, so she doesn't even know my name), does that mean I should just forget about JHU?

^ & the reason I didn't tell her before Oct. 20 was that I didn't think I had a chance at Hopkins. But since my oct. SAT score just came out (2120).. althought not the highest scores :(, I think I actually have a shot with my gpa and that score.

Are you applying Early Decision? That happened to me kinda of, two days before my stuff was due- I decided that I might have a shot and finished it at the last minute.

yay for procrastination!

^ No I am not.
It's not really procrastination.. I didn't think I was good enough to apply to Hopkins...

Why don't you just go to another counselor and ask them to fill out the form. At my school, you can do that-and I meant me when I said that!

if you have built better rapport with someone like a principal, or vice principal, then have them write it for you and send it in. i think that should be acceptable. but i think you may want to have whoever writes it for you explain what the situation is (hopefully they wont say you took so long, but maybe they can say that your counselor is encumbered with a large workload). maybe if your counselor has time later on, then send that in late, again, with an explanation. the principal's evaluation might be an acceptable temporary substitution.

admissionsdaniel will have a better and more official answer for you.

apply for the regular decision round.

re: applying for RD

mmm...don't think that's necessary. besides, if your application is incomplete, you'll be automatically deferred anyway. it's worth the shot to just turn in what you have.

Thanks guys. My parents talked to the school director, and they're contacting my old counselor to see if I can get one from her instead.

Oh, btw, I AM applying for RD. :)

oneday:
In the future, this is a matter that you should contact the Admissions Office directly about. Email gotojhu@jhu.edu or call us at 410-516-8171. This is an individual circumstance and sorry but you are not going to get an accurate answer on College Confidential.

The secondary school report and counselor letter of recommendation are required documents and they must be submitted by your school along with an official copy of your transcript. With out this information, your application will remain incomplete and can not be reviewed. We do not waive these documents.

Additionally, it should be noted that the Admissions Office will not interfere with the policies of your school. If your counselor has a set deadline, then you should meet those deadlines and work within their guidelines. If there is a problem, it needs to be addressed within the school -- it is not something we will interfere with. Working with you guidance counselor is crucial when applying to colleges -- and you need to work within their requirements.

I hope this situation will work out for you.

Thank you, admissiondaniel. I did email JHU on Thursday.

I'm hoping for the best... :)
