Countdown Thread

"ehiunno, it's wonderful that you got such a favorable impression of UVA. You must have had outstanding tour guides! Sometimes the students you meet on a campus can make all the difference...."

Which part of UVa didn't you like?

^ at this point, who cares?

untilted - I'm not sure how you were phrasing your comment, but I took it as "you should love UVa, so what didn't you love?". One university may not suit all people. I know plenty of people who don't like certain aspects about UVa that make UVa, well, UVa. Just because its an outstanding university doesn't make it a golden god that everyone loves, and there are plenty of people who chose other places instead. Plenty of other people think that their university superceeds UVa by leaps and bounds, but does that mean you have to think the same way? No.
And I see where ehiunno is coming from. Engineering is such an extensive and specialized degree that it's hard to chose a school because all top engineering schools will graduate you with a great degree, so it comes down to the individualized school. If there's something about UVa's student body or way of life he doesn't like, it may instantly put UVa at the bottem of the list and another school will move up if it meets his needs.

Sooo...anyone want a cup of tea?

showbox, I have a feeling untitled's question was aimed at LBP, but I may be wrong.

Anyways, yes, my opinions of UVa have been formed based on what a couple of representatives/tour guides have told me, so I am not getting a full depiction of UVa. As you can tell, I haven't made my decision yet (heck, there are still other schools I haven't heard back from) so I fully intend on contacting more kids in the e school and Dr. Marshall before I make any kind of decision.

What time do applicants find out online?

On Friday at 5:30PM.

If that would make the time go faster than yes please!

Good thing decisions are posted after the admissions office is closed - otherwise the people would go ballistic.

"maybe i'm overly critical, but it has to be said...its kinda of annoying to hear people pine for virginia tech. its where the vast majority of people in virginia who don't get into UVa go--simple as that."

Wow! Totally uncalled for. You might want to stay in your UVA/Charlottesville bubble with an attitude like that, jags!

wow, are all you VT people ****ing retarded?

sv3a - you make a very poor representative of UVA with those comments. Shame on you.

I got the likely letter, but should I be worried that I also received the letter that promised a "Look Hoo's Talking" E-mail to set me up with a student and never recieved said e-mail? It's pointless since we're so close to admissions...but I'm freaking out. Does this mean rejection?? Or probably wait-list?

Once again, do not read into the lack of a call or email.

wow, I again have to agree with Zimmer, I am no 'VT kid,' just an undecided applicant. I must say that I don't get offended easily, but I am getting turned off by comments like that.

btw, after a series of PMs with Dean J and an email, I apparently am a Rodman scholar! There was a mixup or something and I didn't get my letter/email. This is great news, hopefully I can make it up there to visit at the Echols/Rodman weekend and talk to some more students and Dr. Marshall. :)

I have to say that I find the bashing of ANY school rude and inappropriate, especially when done by our current students.

If you want to compare what you know of programs at different schools, that's fine. I don't think making fun of any other school, its students, or its academics is necessary. I know the intention is to show how UVa shines, but this sort of behavior actually makes it look like UVa students are petty and mean. A newcomer to this board might be turned off very quickly.

I'm often impressed by the discussion on this board, but the last few days have not been up to the usual standard.

I know there's a lot of anxiety right now, but let's try to stay positive.

Amen, Dean J!

The University of Virginia is a wonderful educational institution, with much history and many proud traditions. As such, the behavior and speech of existing and prospective students should be dignified, above reproach in forums such as this one.

Many of these earlier comments about VT were tasteless, offensive and most unbecoming of what one would expect of the Ladies and Gentlemen who now carry on Mr. Jefferson's legacy. As one who spent four special years at the University, I would hope for more class in such discussions.

You can toot your own horn without bashing the other guy!

ehiunno

I have been reading through these posts, and am currently in a very similar situation to your prior status- I recieved no Rodman email/letter but did get a likely letter and phonecall. I was extremely interested in the Rodman program, and somewhat disappointed that I did not make it in. What exactly was the mixup? Was it an individual mistake, or did it happen on a general level?

You may wanna contact Dean J on that one, thats what I did.

then again, I may not have gotten into the program because I didn't cut it, and then I just bugged her until she let me in ;)

Thanks for the support, Ehiunno. I love vigorous debate about various merits of schools and their programs, but point-blank rude personal comments like those of that poster are just plain unnecessary. If anything, they reflect rather poorly on the poster and his/her "side".

I am very interested to hear where you decide to go, Ehiunno. My s applied to a few of the same E schools you did. Come to think of it, I'll be interested to hear what he decides as well!!

I have noticed that too. There are a lot of us that have posted on the same board; no doubt because high caliber students tend to flock to high caliber schools around this ridiculous place.

my decision is going to become a lot simpler around 5:00 today when I get my Cornell rejection, lol. I am still holding on to hope, but we'll see.
