Countdown to RD Decisions (Class of 2018)

2250 SAT, 4.0 GPA, out-of-the-box ECs… hello waitlist!

Congrats to everyone who got in though!

accepted 34 ACT, 4.0 GPA OOS

Waitlisted, didn’t put a whole lot of effort into this app, and I already got into MIT, so this decision wasn’t really important to me. Good job to everyone that got in, it’s a pretty cool place!

Did anyone else get an email offering to pay for travel expenses to attend one of the two admitted-students events?

@satsarecool DS got the offer!

I am curious to know in the writing supplement what “Other colleges have you applied to” did everyone list?

@jfirr2011 I saw that the question was optional, and so I chose not to answer it. I was accepted.

@satsarecool I got an expense covered email, too

Rejected. 3.878 UW GPA, and 4.041 W GPA. 31 ACT. Typical EC’s. Not surprised that I didn’t get in. Rice was one of my highest reaches. Congrats to everyone who got accepted!

@jfirr2011 i put nothing too

DS is in with a Trustee’s scholarship ($86k total). He also received invitation to visit with coverage of expense.
He answered the question about other colleges he has applied to.

@dragonflymusic scroll down to the bottom of the acceptance letter. there should be some links there if you’ve got a scholarship.

Rejected. 2190 sat, 5.3w.gpa, 4.0, 3 time state champion runner, Eagle scout, blah, blah, blah.
Not surprised. It was a last minute, free application I threw in. Didn’t put much effort into essays
Accepted to Stanford, Georgetown, PennSrate Honors, RPI, CMU, USNA
Rejected from MIT, ND, Rice
Waiting for UPENN, Cornell (likely)
Great school. Congrats to all who got in. Wish I was more familiar with it when I applied.

We received an e-mail for Owl Days (overnight) or admitted students days (not overnight). It does say they need travel arrangements made by a certain date - is that because the cost is covered or are there some who get travel covered and some who do not???

It says they require travel details on the form…is that because they are reimbursed?

Sorry! I am confused!

I believe that there was a separate email saying that they will cover costs. We did not get that one either. Maybe it has to do with affordability. I think they are asking for travel plans because they pick up at airports. Can someone please confirm?

^Thanks @CUPKSDAD Hopefully, someone will chime in.

I think a second look is worth it even if airfare is not covered. Ds has visited once, but it was in the fall of his junior year - so it has been awhile!

Agreed. We already bought our tickets.

The free travel arrangements offered only to some are irksome. They do not all seem to be need based. Oh well.

@CUPKSDAD

Congratulations again on your admission to Rice! As the result of a generous gift to Rice, we are pleased to offer you a travel reimbursement so that you may attend one of our three admitted student programs in April. This offer is being made to a limited number of admitted students and provides for reimbursement of your air transportation costs — up to $500 (including any checked baggage fees) — if you attend Owl Days or one of two Admit Days at Rice. Below you will find more information about these programs and the travel reimbursement offer.

Owl Days (April 9-11), Rice University’s signature admitted student program, features a two-night stay in one of our residential colleges, academic panels, campus tours and student-led activities. The overnight hosting option is available to admitted students on a first-come, first-served basis.

Admit Day (April 7 or 17) is a single-day program featuring a student panel, an academic panel, lunch in the residential colleges, and opportunities to meet with faculty and staff. The Admit Day events provide an alternative for students who are unable to attend Owl Days and you may choose either of the dates offered. There is no overnight hosting option for students who attend an Admit Day.

We hope you will join us on campus for Owl Days or an Admit Day. All admitted students are invited, but you have been specially selected for this travel reimbursement offer. We look forward to seeing you on campus!

Sincerely,
Sarah Fischer
Associate Director of Admission

Don’t see any pickup from airport …I think the RSVP is primarily so that they arrange for dorming.

Ok. Thx. There goes my theory. We did not see that in the email that my D received. Look forward to meeting other families on owl days
