I'm thinking about enrolling in an online course that is offered through my local community college. Have many people done this? Does it look good to colleges? I was also wondering if it would be necessary to also take the AP Exam in the same subject area?

Lots of people do this. You would not need to take the AP exam because you are taking a real college course, and you will earn a real college grade.

Our local commiunity college is all geared up for teaching certain classes every summer, but these are real life classes, not online ones. The most popular choices are U.S. History, Econ, and Government, since all of these are high school requirements at her school anyway. Some kids also take a computer-related course to get the tech requirement out of the way, although that one doesn’t always carry over as a college credit.

Big University here offers some online high school classes, but these are high school courses like Health and P.E. They don’t offer academic coursework that carries college credit online for high school students.
