Course numbers

I recently finished my freshman year of high school, and when I look at my reports, I see a course number for each class. I checked the website of a college prep high school where it said what the course numbers meant (Phillips Academy). I also go to a college prep school, so I don’t know if the course numbers are equivalent in any way. I learned that courses that were at level 100 were introductory courses, for freshman usually, 200 level courses were for freshman or sophomores and so on. This got me confused when I see that the course numbers of most of my classes are kind of high for a freshman. Others weren’t even level 100. Here are the classes I took with their course number:

English 9- #008
Spanish 9- #112
World History 1- #405
Enriched Chemistry- #320
Algebra II Plus- #225
French I- #805
Instrumental Music- #706

What’s your question though?

I’m guessing that the way your school uses the course numbers is completely unrelated to the college level system. More likely, each set is by topic. 200’s are math, 400’s are history, etc. I don’t know that for sure, but it makes sense.

Oh, right. My question is, “Why do I have course numbers that are so high for a freshman and others that are low?”

Each school can set up course numbers as they please. In this example, it looks like first digit is the department.
