Course rigor enough for top colleges?

I don’t want to go to an Ivy League school and my guidance counselor thinks I’m doing fine, but I do want to go to either Johns Hopkins, Carnegie Mellon, or Georgetown. Rather than taking a bunch of APs, I hope that I can use the “holistic” review to my advantage. I’m taking the new SAT and three subject tests (Math II, Chemistry, Spanish).

My school offers 17 AP courses and I’ll only be taking 5 total plus 2 self-study.

Thank you in advance!!

Determine your course rigor by asking yourself these questions:

  1. Compare yourself to ALL of your classmates. Besides required courses, are the courses you’re taking harder, same, or easier than theirs?
  2. How many opportunities are you taking that your school offers? Are you taking all the APs and Honors possible?
  3. Are you going above and beyond? Are you in advanced track for anything? If your school offers limited opportunities, do you go to other places to fulfill your course rigor? That can be anywhere like a community college, another school, a local university, etc.
