I was looking at the core classes and I was wondering if there was a place online I could find syllabi in general or book lists for classes. For instance, I want to see what texts would be required for "Human Being and Citizen"...is there somewhere I can find all this?

I don't believe so. http://collegecatalog.uchicago.edu/ has the general info (it's the same as the fat catalog book) but I don't think you can get the book lists online. To my knowledge, the only place that syllabi/booklists are online is on Chalk, the student-only website with all your courses and resources and such.

I'm in Human Being and Citizen. I highly recommend it as a hum class. Some sections may use very slightly different texts, and the reading list is adjusted every year or two. Many texts will show up in other hum courses, and every hum class begins with The Apology.

Fall Quarter:
The Apology -Plato
The Iliad -Homer
Genesis -God (...I couldn't resist writing that)
The Euthyphro -Plato

Winter Quarter:
Nicomachean Ethics -Aristotle
Confessions -St. Augustine
Inferno -Dante

Spring Quarter:
Troilus and Cressida -Shakespeare (We also did some sonnets in my class)
What is Englightenment? -Kant
American Documents including the Constitution, Declaration of Independence, Mayflower Compact, Lincoln's 2nd Inagurual Address, Gettysburg Address, Federalist papers #10 and #51, MLK's Letter from a Birmingham Jail, and some poetry
The Foundations of the Metaphysics of Morals -Kant
Hadji Murad -Tolstoy
