People who get attend Ivies usually have a more rigorous schelcule than yours. Usually you will see at least 4-5 AP/IB/Dual Enrollment classes per year junior and senior and the majority of classes taken in freshman and sophmore will be honors at minimum. GPA is around 3.75 minimum. To be considered competitve you need even more. I do like how you will be taking 2 AP languages. That’s impressive!
Thank you
I will now take:
Junior:
AP USH
AP Biology
Chemistry Honors
Algebra 2 w Trigonometry
Autoservicing Tech 1
Chinese 1
AP Language
I will do precalculus over the summer
Senior:
AP Government
AP Literature
Dual enrollment physics
AP Chemistry
AP Calculus AB
AP Chinese
Autoservicing Tech 2
I do agree with what Madeline25 said, but do you think that you are capable of that schedule, given how you did freshman and sophomore year? I just ask because from what I see, that was a very large jump from the proposed schedule to the now schedule.
Edit: Also, how are you going from Chinese 1 to AP Chinese? Are you fluent already? Why are you dropping Spanish?
That looks much better! Ideally I’d like to see you in AP Chem and AP Calc or Stat in junior year, but at some schools it is hard to or near impossible to do. The only thing I might consider is the jump from Chineese 1 to AP Chineese. Do you already speak the language?
Either you’re already fluent in Chinese and there’s no need to take Chinese 1 - take Chinese 4 then AP. Or you’re not and then you can’t go from Chinese 1 to AP.
Ask your teachers and only take AP classes where you’re rather certain you’ll get a B or higher.
Did you get an A in Biology/ac? If not, don’t take AP Bio.
Calculus is not necessary to attend college, and taking precalc over the summer is considered a bad move by math teachers. Stick to the regular sequence, taking Algebra2 Honors junior year, then Precalculus Honors, and making sure you get A’s. (About 1/3 students admitted to the Ivy League “only” had Precalc Honors, but you can be sure they got A’s).
Regardless of where you end up in college, a rigorous courseload will help you both get admitted and
Why do you want to study African American studies? What complementary classes do you plan on taking with it (Urban Studies, Statistics, Economics, Government&Policy)? Why the Ivy League - why not Spelman or Morehouse, and Howard?
I agree with @MYOS1634 and @ambers58. While you want to have a rigorous schedule, be realistic. The jump from the proposed schedule to the modified schedule is huge, to say the least. Your freshman/sophomore schedule its mostly academic classes, and former junior year schedule had one honors. Jumping from that two 3 (difficult) APs and an honors doesn’t seem to like a good idea IMO.
Take APs in the subjects you have A’s or high B’s, and those that interest you. While junior year should have the most rigorous workload, getting Cs/Ds won’t look impressive and will show you aren’t ready for college.
Going from Chinese 1 to AP? Not a smart move unless you are fluent/near fluent. That’s skipping 1, 2, 3, 4 and possibly 5. How come you dropped Spanish?
I suggest taking 2 APs to start out with, along with 2-3 honors and a few academic “easy” classes for junior year. Make sure you check your school’s policy for when you can drop AP/Honors classes if you struggle. Depending on how you do you can take 3 or more APs and more honors classes for senior year. This way you will be less likely to struggle/overwork yourself.
If you want to take PreCalculus next summer, I recommend starting towards the end of the school year. Get/Borrow a textbook. Ask an older friend for notes. Precalc is a review of trig and has some complex topics but its is manageable. Make sure you discuss this with your Algebra 2/Trig teacher and/or your counselor.
Good luck!
