Coursework Section of Application

Currently finalizing my application to FSU and I'm kinda confused about the high school coursework section of the app. I'm from Canada so the grading system is kind of different but it asks for my senior year courses and I've listed them no problem but my school operates on a 2 semester system (4 classes each semester totalling of 8 per year) and each class is worth 1 credit. However on the FSU app it says only year long classes are worth 1 full credit and semester is worth 0.5. Which option do I use then, year long or semester??

Secondly, it asks for level- my school doesn't offer AP, Honors, IB classes and all that. Rather it's divided in 3 different levels: Locally Developed, College and University. University is the highest level and is definitely more rigourous than the other two. It's pretty much the same as American AP classes level wise but it's not actually AP so would it be wrong to check that option?? I feel like choosing Regular doesn't do my course work justice because I am in the highest level provided at my school.

Please help!!! Thanks xo

Edit: University level at my school would probably be more similar to Honors level

You should contact the Office of Admissions and ask these questions. I’m sure there have been other Canadians applying who have run into these same issues. FSU admissions people are very helpful!

It sounds like your school is on block scheduling. One semester on a block schedule is equal to one year. And as far as level, I believe the first year of a subject on university track would be honors (for example Grade 11 Physics). The second year (Grade 12 physics) would be considered university or AP level. (at least that’s how I have heard it from friends in Ontario) Again though, best to call Admissons. Remember though, FSU is on break until Jan 5.

Yeah, the best advice here is to contact the Admissions office. With the SSAR this year, admissions has made it a point to notify applicants of the importance of filling out the SSAR correctly to the way that FSU wants to see it. It would be best to see what admissions wants to see.

I know that someone posted here that their Accelerated level courses were supposed to be listed as just a regular course, because they weren’t specifically Honors or anything like that, even though they were probably equal to Honors (and were weighted the same). That’s the closest example I know of to your situation, but you really should get a firm word from FSU itself.

Good luck! And please post back with what FSU says. I’m sure there are plenty of students in your situation each year that would find this information invaluable to have!

@Pasbal‌ do international students have to fill out the SSAR as well ??

Have you looked at the International Admissions website?

<a href=“FSU Admissions | Error 404 page not found”>http://admissions.fsu.edu/international/admissions/freshman.cfm

I don’t believe that you’re required to submit the SSAR, but the coursework section will likely provide FSU with much of the same information. I would still contact them to make sure that you’re putting down the correct information on the coursework section, whether you end up having to submit the SSAR or not.
