My son is looking at renting an apartment at the Courtyards next year. (near North Campus) Does anyone know how easy it would be to sublet it out in the summer?

Not sure I can be helpful except to point out the obvious, that everyone has something to sublet in the summer…
However, did your son look into the U.Housing Northwood 3 apartments ON North campus? Those rates are for fall/winter, even a 1 br is a little cheaper than a single dorm with meal plan being equal, and you’re not paying for summer.
Just a thought.
We’ve been mucking around about housing in our fam too. Our son decided at the end of the day off-campus was just going to entail more hassle than what he desires on a number of fronts.

Summer sublet is almost impossible. You usually get about a third of the monthly rental from May to August.

There are some highly desirable places where the only way to get in is to agree to sublet at full monthly rent for the summer then the old people transfer the place to you and you sign up for another 12 months. So even if you can do this on the back end you are still stuck with summer sublet on the front end.

The other alternative is to spend the summer in A2 and use the place.

My kid has had optimal central campus location rentals that she gets half of her rent as a sublet in the summer, I don’t know for sure but I’d expect North Campus apartment to be even harder to sublet for any good amount.

Thanks all. Sounds like I better plan on paying the summer rent IF we go the apartment option.
