I'll be up for transferring Spring 2012, and I was curious about this topic. I understand that most tattoos can be hidden, but mine is somewhat a different case than most (I have searched and read many of these tattoo-based threads). When I was younger I went out- like an idiot- and got the back of my left hand covered by a tattoo.

My question is, would it be acceptable to cover the tattoo with makeup? I did not know whether or not I should, strictly because of its location. I have done this quite frequently in order to work and do well in interviews, however I was unsure of the effectiveness of this method in Med School.

I'm not very concerned with my GPA or any other scores, I honestly think this is my only worry so far.

Thanks to everyone in advance :)

Is it an inappropriate tattoo? Or are you more concerned about whether the academic/medical community would tolerate it?

Definitely not anything that would offend anybody (to my knowledge). I just do not see it as being open-arm accepted by the medical community.

It is actually a 4-leaf clover.

I think you could actually use it in your favor if you had an interesting and heartfelt story behind it. I’m not advocating making something up.

I suppose if you can’t cover it up, act like it isn’t there, don’t act embarrassed about it or you’ll look like a flake.
Hey, if your MCAT and GPA and ECs and other personality characteristics stand out, I’d doubt the tattoo would kill you. It certainly may cause a bad first impression, but I’m a sucker to believe you’ll still receive a chance.

UncannyCrayon, I’ll definitely take that into consideration. The idea for the tattoo was actually brought on by a long time nickname, given to me from playing pool and gambling. (Not too high on the list of ECs, I know :p)

Most people say that I have a unique personality, and I’m not too worried about my test scores. I’ve overcame too much to stress over a few points on a standardized test, so I will absolutely put thought into your suggestion.
