I have TONS of questions!

Hey everybody. I have a lot of questions because I just recently started looking at the pre med forum. So here are my questions and some background info.

Does your undergrad school matter that much?

-I am in post secondary which is where I get duel credit for going to the University of Akron and taking classes there while getting high school credits too. The reason why I am asking is because for many of the higher schools (yale, harvard, ect), my credits would not transfer and I would have basically wasted the past 2 years of credits. I sacrificed my 4.0+ GPA and classes so I could save money and take harder classes than our AP classes (like honors physics, chem, O chem, Calc 1-3, ect). I dont want to throw away all of my hard work just to go to a college that is "prestigious". Plus my 32 ACT and 3.95 probably wont get me in :(

Does your grad school count too?

Kind of like the other questions. I know you have to get like a 40 on the MCAT to get into Harvard which is like impossible. But when you apply for residency, do they really look that into what school you went to?

What do you do in Med school?

I really have no idea what you do! I asked my dad a while back because he is in the medical field but he never went there so he wasnt 100% sure what you do. He told me that you take pretty much the same classes as everybody else no matter what specific filed they are going into.

If I am afraid of blood, am I screwed?

I was never afraid of blood until a couple years ago when I hurt myself and ended up bleeding a lot (too long to explain). So now whenever I bleed a lot, if its gushing or squirting out, I pass out because my body is "protecting itself". Blood doesnt even bother me or make me cringe. It just kind of happens.

Can you get scholarships for med school?

I probably have some others but I cant really think of them right now.

Undergrad matters a small bit, but in the grand scheme of things, it is the gpa and mcat that matter most, whereever you go. fyi, the college credits you get now count towards your gpa for med school apps, so dont do poorly.

Med school matters a small bit too, especially for the competitive residencies or top programs. In the top 10 things residency programs look at, med school reputation would be around 8 or 9 (Just a number I thought of. Look at Charting Outcomes for more accuracy). Step 1 is important no matter where you go.

What do we do in med school? Study a lot and have lots of fun.

You’ll be fine, your body will get use to seeing blood. Ive seen lots of surgeries, but last week, watched an eye surgery and almost blacked out. I was fine for the rest of the eye surgeries I watched that day.

You can get scholarships for med school. They range from couple thousand to full tuition.
