I made an earlier post about whether or not I should return in the fall semester 2020 if classes do not resume in person. Some models though suggest that classes may not be able to resume until 2022, my graudation. I have a technical major. I am an Equine Studies student. I may be at a university with a liberal arts focus, but my major is very technical and requires developing skills that can not be learned from a textbook. It requires direct experience. I am not the only person dealing with this issue. I am asking for advice.
Under the potential circumstance that classes do not return to campus in the fall, how should us technical majors gain the experience we need to be employable?
To be more specific, what can we do to make the deficit we have in skills because we had to learn everything online?
My classes, including my training and horseback riding classes, had to move online. I can no longer be a certified riding instructor. Now it poses my threat to my future education. I do not own a horse, and obviously I cannot go to a farm to gain experience. In the worst case scenario, I would be graduating in 2022 with classes still online. I would have missed out on the six credit internship, eight credits in training, and a three credit horse handling course. As someone coming into the industry with limited experience, the skills are very important to me. What could I do though to make up for the lost experience?
