Cox Research Scholarship

This might not apply to many here since I think only Indiana students qualify, but IU has sent out their Cox Research Scholarship letters. I got mine today. My mouth is starting to hurt from smiling so much.

Congratulations!!!

I just got the Cox Scholarship and will be visiting on April 17th I hope to see you there

Hey, the scholarship is ONLY worth $60,000. Oh, wait, the scholarship is worth a MINIMUM of $60,000. That might help out a bit with the family budget this year. Plus, of course, you get to work with a faculty member as your mentor for four years (which is possibly worth as much or more than the monetary award).

Congratulations, Orual and noshame724. You are among a very distinctive group of Indiana University scholars.

What is the difference between the Cox and the IU STARS Program other than the scholarship that comes with he Cox?

I think the main difference is that you don’t have to be a science major for the Cox scholarship.

Orual and noshame724,

My congratulation is late. However, I would appreciate if you could shed some light about how good a student has to be to win the Cox Research Scholarship?

Thanks

yeah, if somebody could give a little info on the cox scholarship and its requirements, i would appreciate it!
congrats!

Cox Research Scholarship–requires at least a 1350 SAT or 31 ACT, Instate students only, 3.95 GPA for initial consideration. One checks off the box indicating interest on the SSA.

Thanks for the reply. I am aware of the minimum requirements. However, I am wondering if there are more details on the degree of difficulty related to the following:

1) What would be the average GPA and SAT score of the Cox scholars?
2) What would be the interview process? Two days in a group such as Wells scholars or individual?
3) Is it as competitive as the Kelley scholars and Wells scholars?
4) What kind of research experiences would they look for?
5) Would they even consider the academic ability once a student is invited or they are looking for socially capable students?
6) How many students are typically invited for the interview?

Thanks

yes could someone please tell me the average sat or act scores of a winner of the cox scholarship??

In case anyone else is anxioulsy awaiting to hear on the Cox Research Scholarship, I checked yesterday and they said they hoped to mail out notices to everyone (winners or not) this week.

so should i be thinking monday?? i am both excited an petrified.

i still havent recieved anything anyone else?

nope, nothing here either. I emailed again the other day but no response.

I also asked them the other day about Herbert Presidential. They said…“You will definitely know by the end of February, I think they said they’ve just sent them out or will be doing so soon”. This was from someone in admissions about 4-7 days ago. So…those should also be within the next week. Luck to all.

seems like everything is late. my rejection to the stars program was almost 2 weeks late. ugh i hope this isnt another bad sign

Well, when it rains, it pours. Yesterday, my son received notification that he received the Presidential Scholarship and today we received a package that he has been chosen as a Cox Scholar. We are very blessed and thankful!

Wow! Congrats turbo!
