How do top MBA programs value work as a CPA for a few years? Also, is it common for CPAs to go back to school to get their MBA and work in finance, and is the prior work as a CPA a good foundation for a career in IB? Would not working in IB before getting your MBA work against someone who was a CPA beforehand?

bump......

It seems to me that the value of a CPA would vary based on your actual work experience. Some CPAs go back for MBAs, but not at that high of a rate since you generally do not need an MBA for accounting (ie partner at Big 4).

However, i do believe a CPA's accounting knowledge would be very valuable in business school. If you do well in business school (grades/networking) then a CPA would certainly have an opportunity to go into IB (same could be said of an engineer though).

I need more input.

If you wish to continue in accounting, then there's no need to get an MBA. However, if you want a career change,(go into management, IB, marketing etc) then MBA would be a good place to start.
