Hello all. I have a neighbor who is a close friend. His wife is a CPA and has her own practice. She has offered to allow me to work there when I want to. I know the work exp. requirement for the CPA is one year under the supervision of a CPA, but does this have to be in public accounting, or does my situation qualify?

It’s one year under a certified CPA.

doesn’t matter if she owns her own practice? doesnt have to be public?

Doesn’t matter - It’s public if she has her own practice and has clients and makes money by doing taxes/auditing for indivudals and/or companies. It’s private if she works for a specific, private company as an accountant or something (like Coke, Frito Lay, Yum Brands, etc…). It doesn’t matter private either, but it’s a little harder to get passed with more paperwork, but it’s the same.

Don’t worry. take the f’ing job and be happy

Go to your state’s licensing authority and find out what the requirements for YOUR state are. Then, make sure the work you will be doing for this CPA will qualify.

@binks Hahaha don’t worry my friend, I’m definitely taking the job regardless!! I would do it for a unpaid internship just for the experience and resume padding if needed. I’m going to do it over summer for sure and see if she offers me full time employment after graduation. Just wanted to see what is considered as working under a CPA for the CPA…

Thanks for the help guys
