CPP math placement test?

Hi all, like some of you I’m waiting to hear from Pomona on my application for Mechanical Engineering as a first-time freshman.

As a high school senior I’m currently finishing Math Analysis (Pre-Calculus), where I got an A in the fall and currently have an A in the spring.

Based on my SAT scores, I’m exempt from the English Placement Test (EPT) and Entry Level Math (ELM) test.

Pomona’s campuswide “Next Steps for First-Time Freshmen”:

http://www.csupomona.edu/~admissions/publications/nextsteps/FTF%20Next%20Steps%202013-14.pdf

doesn’t mention any other math requirements before enrolling.

However, I see some of you have posted recently mentioning a required Math Diagnostic Placement Test:

[MDPT | Cal Poly Pomona](http://www.csupomona.edu/~math/mdpt.html)

It appears that the next time this test will be given will be June 22. I gather it takes some time to get the results.

So here is my question. If I’m lucky enough to be accepted by Pomona in the next few weeks, do I have to take this placement test before I’m allowed to enroll for the usual calculus sequence? If so, will I be able to take the test in time to enroll in calculus for the fall? Or does the timing of all this mean that I wouldn’t be able to start calculus any sooner than the winter?

Wasn’t the math placement test due on May 4th? Which was also the only test to apply for.

May 4 is the last day to take the English Placement Test (EPT) and/or the Entry Level Math (ELM) test, if required. However, my SAT scores are high enough that I’m exempt from both of those.

Apparently, though, there is a different math placement test called the MDPT – that’s the one I’m asking about. It was mentioned in one of the other threads here in a report from CPP’s Engineering Day earlier this month.

Not sure if you need to take it or not, but MDPT results are available on broncodirect a few days after the exam. I took mine on Saturday and results were up today (tuesday)

Thanks. Can any existing engineering student confirm if the MDPT is required for any incoming freshman who took Pre-Calc in high school and would be starting Calc at CPP?

The only way you are exempt from the MDPT is if you took an AP Calculus exam (AB or BC) and scored a 3 or higher.

check the MDPT page. You can register for the next exam and that will cover you for fall classes.
