Hi,
I’m a transfer student that got accepted into both CPP and CSUF for both their business program. I’m having trouble deciding which school to go to now because of the things I’ve been hearing about both of the schools:
-CSUF’s business program is well known and respected by California employers.
-CPP recently has a new business building/also accredited by AACSB

These are what I’ve got from reading past posts on this forum, and there hasn’t really been any recent discussions about it.
Since time has changed, would CPP now be up to par with CSUF’s business program?

I’m leaning towards CPP because I live 15 mins away from CSUF and I want a change in environment. I don’t really care about the campus/social life so that is not a factor to me.

I got in as a CIS major as well, but I’m thinking about changing my concentration to Accounting and maybe a minor in CIS.

I feel like CIS is not a strong enough major, and I checked the stats for admissions by majors, CIS only had like around 200 people that applied to the major?
So idk, something doesn’t seem right about that.

@vivis8: just an fyi, they no longer allow minors. you’re going to have to pick your major and stick with it.

@keepchow: I really have enjoyed some of the classes such as telecommunications. But some are just really asinine like database and java. I chose CIS since I didn’t want to have to deal with programming and could focus more on hardware. I guess it is cool to have a basic understanding of how that end works though.

You’ll learn what professors are good and which you should avoid (use k00fers to pick your professors). I’ve had to go through a few terrible ones because that’s all that is available. But others are still available to help you for anything you need.

I don’t personally know any graduates, but some of the clubs are really helpful in getting you a job. MISSA comes to mind. The college sends out emails daily about job opportunities. Plenty of businesses want to hire CIS majors specifically from CPP because their CIS program is one of the best in the nation. In fact, other colleges have stolen the model that CPP uses and implemented it into their programs.

I can’t speak for the beginner java since I took that at a JC (online I might add, and I learned nothing). But I did intermediate java and it was alright. Its just time consuming and seemingly unnecessary since I’m pursuing a telecom career track. Building java programs can take like 20 hours of work since you don’t have any real idea on how to do it.

Database was difficult since the instructor didn’t really do much in depth explanation of what we were doing. I took it with preiser, and although she really understands database, she didn’t really do much hands on so the students would fully grasp it. Those projects also take a very long time to do.

It isn’t that difficult to get 3 classes at least. They put a limit on the amount of units you can register for which is something like 14 units. This limit is removed at a later date and you can scramble to get a 4th. I haven’t had much trouble thus far getting what I needed.
