How do you do questions where it's like "The author's reaction to Passage 1 would probably be" or "The author's attitude is best described as..."?

You can't find the answer to problems like those over the net. But here's a shot:

You need to read the passage carefully and pick out lines or words which give away what the author is thinking. These details, which convey the author's tone/attitude can often be found in the first and last paragraphs.

Authors almost always have one of three attitudes: negative (he opposes/distrusts it), positive (he trusts/approves of it), neutral/unbiased (he is impartial about it). If you can narrow it down to one of these three, then you can eliminate answers that represent the other two and greatly improve your score. But remember, an author always cares about what he writes (otherwise, why would he bother to write it?) so don't pick answers that say the author has a disinterested attitude.

But seriously, you should buy 'Cracking the SAT/PSAT/NMSQT' by the Princeton Review. I did, and I got a 2290.

there is no place in the passage where it will explicity state that answer you know. YOu gotta take the whole essay holistically and understand what the authoers message is.

^precisely...

Also try not to pick EXTREME ANSWERS ...Like answers that begin with
overly ____

or anything that sounds too harsh or too nice (bad word choice but w/e)
